to be human is to use tools. the problem with ai is that it is a tool that adapts to the human. a great song is melody and harmony conjured out of a fixed set of notes, and expressed with the voice or some other tool like the piano. we enjoy sports because we understand the fixed system/tools the players use, and their almost superhuman manipulation of the system or tool amazes us. every human feat we hold in esteem can be boiled down to a human's adaptation to a fixed tool. when the tool adapts to the human, the result is a paradox where anything produced, no matter how technically viable, is inherently valueless due to the absence of the human-tool relationship. with every human invention, there is celebration from some, and lamentation from others who believe that the progress erases human abilities. and they are correct - the written word destroyed our long standing tradition of oral history, agriculture decimated our species' inherent hunting ability. this new invention, masquerading as a tool, leads us into unknown territory, for instead of rendering our previous adaptations obsolete, the new invention is erasing adaptation itself.
